With the kids grown up, the parents wanted a combination home entertainment and recreation room for themselves and the grandkids. The hall/storage space that led to the area became a dramatic entry to the theater. The irregular space was the ideal configuration for a theater so the architect removed the walls, created structural beams that also focused the space on the screen and connected the space via floor to ceiling glass to the exterior. To utilize the space, shelf rails of African striped Mahogany circle the room and support artwork. Theater seating is at the rear of the room leaving space for grandchildren to play on the floor. Fireplace, cabinetry, Murphy bed and bar area are also tied to the space via the horizontal trim. A heated Slate floor and walls and ceiling acoustical panels add warmth and sound quality to the room. Special lighting is designed for the artwork and fiber optic light "stars" give the space a "theatrical" feel.
