Media Retreat

Combine the highest standard of home theater technology with art and artful details. The only reason to leave would be to buy more popcorn.
Work done:
Walk-out Level
Location:
Lake Minnetonka
Architect:
Mark Nesset
With the kids grown up, the parents wanted a combination home entertainment and recreation room for themselves and the grandchildren. The walk-out level hall/storage space that led to the area became a dramatic entry to the theater. With walls removed, the new open space was the ideal configuration for a theater. Carefully, we inserted structural beams that also focused the space on the screen and connected the space via floor to ceiling glass to the exterior. To better and subtlety utilize the space, shelf rails of African striped Mahogany circle the room and support artwork. Theater seating is at the rear of the room leaving space for grandchildren to play on the heated Slate floor. A new fireplace, cabinetry, Murphy bed and bar area are also tied to the space via the horizontal trim.  Walls and ceiling acoustical panels add warmth and sound quality to the room. Special lighting is designed for the artwork and fiber optic light “stars” give the space a “theatrical” feel.

Media Room Highlights:

  • THX sound system
  • Sound control as well as sound proofing
  • Fiber optic star field
  • Spa-like bathroom
